BRUSSELS ATTACKS: A PAINFUL DAY FOR BELGIUM AND EUROPE
Koinonia would like to send its condolences and sympathy to all those affected by Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Brussels, where 34 people were killed and over 200 were wounded. ISIS - Islamic State - claimed responsibility for the airport and Metro bombings.
We join Christians from all over the world in praying for the victims, Brussels, Belgium and Europe, as we condemn extremism and all forms of hate.
These attacks were perpetrated once again in the name of a religious ideology that proclaims the name of God. As a Christian organisation, we would like to disassociate ourselves from any such image of God which seeks to inflict pain and destruction upon people's lives.
This assault goes beyond the national boundaries of Belgium, it is an attack at the heart of Europe and the values which we hold dear. "Freedom was struck in its heart this morning in Brussels as Paris was a few months ago, as London or Spain were in their turn," as Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said, speaking of a "common fight" that unites us.
In this critical hour, we need to show solidarity, respect and refrain from making insensitive comments towards others that seek to divide us.
We face a very real terrorist threat right across our different countries and more than ever before, we need to stay united and reject fear and intimidation.
INVITATION - We warmly invite you to our new Agape Festival on 28 March 2016, from 12:00 to 16:00 at Feestzaal Kielpark, Sint-Bernardsesteenweg 113, Antwerpen-Kiel.
In collaboration with the Flemish and international church community in Antwerp, we want to bring the true meaning of Easter in our city.
Therefore, we invite the less fortunate to a banquet and we serve the young and old alike.
Your presence and support for the Agape Festival means a lot to us. We hope to see you there.
Greatest Gift Festival report on 19 December 2015.
With heart and soul, over 150 volunteers from 20 different churches and organizations offered a free Christmas for the less fortunate. Diverse people, Nigerians, Chinese, Brazilians, Arabs, Ghanaians, Filipinos, Dutch, Greeks, Congolese, Americans, Angolans... served together all the families and individuals who came from different social organizations and agencies to the annual Greatest Gift Festival celebration every December.
The classical piano alternated with gypsy violin music, gospel singers and bands which included Capelle singers, drama and modern dance. This stunning artistic program was accompanied by a three-course meal, a special children's programme and lots of gifts. The organizers pampered their guests this Christmas and warmed their hearts with hope.
"What's under your Christmas tree?" was the question that was asked in the crowded hall.
Attention to the real meaning of Christmas was given during the evening, aiming to restore the significance of what we celebrate this season.
Although the people at the event were themselves in need, they were moved with compassion and contributed from their heart towards the Koinonia Street Children project in Uganda, when it was presented.

The British Prime Minister in his Easter message called publicly his country a Christian nation where faith is not merely a collection of old buildings but a living acting force, doing great works across the country. He then affirmed his support to the persecuted Christians throughout the world. What an example! As instructed in the Bible, we continue to pray for the authorities in the land, local Mayors and Parliament officials alike, for godly wisdom and righteousness to reign. You can watch David Cameron's message here.
WHAT IS GOD DOING IN OUR TIME? - Among the troops of the faithful men of David that helped establish his kingdom, there was a remarkable group of leaders from the tribe of Issachar. Their special strength was neither in their numbers nor in their skill to handle the sword but in the understanding of the times. They actually knew what the whole nation should do! (1 Chr 12:32). THE LIGHT ON BELGIUM
Belgium is a country with a Christian background. Our social system, the facilities and the reception of foreigners and those in need, are one of the best in the world. This is mainly due to the Christian roots of our country in which these good values have been established. Yet Belgium like the rest of the European countries, has rejected its Christian identity now. The development and prosperity of the country have separated it from its original values.
The recent multicultural and multi-religious character of the nation, the alienation of the modern society from church and its message, as well as the thriving religious extremism, have turned people away from religion all together...
“I have now seen another way in which people live their faith, not known to the general public. We must work to make more people come to understand this." Raymond, Social Photographer-Journalist.
